Paper Shredding Companies or Paper Shredders?
Which would serve the needs of your business or home better, a paper shredder or the services of a
paper shredding company? The answer depends on a variety of factors such as how much paper you need shredded on
a regular basis, your security requirements, and of course cost. Whether for business or for
home, the best quick answer is "it depends."
It Depends....
Looking at Different Options Depending on Your Size and Kind of Business
If your business is large, and in one location, in many situations working with a paper shredding company is
your best option, but it is certainly possible you might prefer having paper shredders in house.
There is a truly astonishing choice of shredding equipment available.
If you work for a large and complex business with multiple locations, be sure to consider the options of working
with a large paper shredding service which is also multi-locational. They stay up to date on the laws, they
work with all your locations, and it is much easier for you. You will most likely be able to choose between on-site
shredding, where a mobile shredding unit comes to your door, and offsite shredding, where your documents--very
securely handled, of course--are taken to the location of the service you have selected. If you go the latter
route, you want to get Certificates of Destruction as proof of the shredding.
For small and medium-sized businesses, paper shredding companies offer a lot of options. You can have
intermittent pickups as you need them, and some firms provide you with secure containers to put your documents in
until destruction time. Or you can consider purchasing one or more shredders, after thinking through whether you
have the space and security to do it on your own.
Certain kinds of businesses require more extreme security than others. Anything to do with national security or
contracts with our military falls into this category, as do medical records and legal records. If you are in such a
category, no doubt you know a lot about the need for secure document destruction.
For home use, a simple personal paper shredder is one very good way to go, but the various shredding companies
offer drop-off locations in many large and small cities, even in suburban malls. This approach is particularly
useful if you do a big project of cleaning out a lot of old papers.
About Paper Shredders
This website began in 2009 as an informational site about paper shredding service companies, hence its name,
papershreddingcompanies.org. We are adding more information about paper shredders as well. There is a
graphic on the bottom of the pages on this site. Clicking on it will take you to a company
which sells shredders (and we may make a small commission at no cost to you if you purchase
there) and also offers information about all types of equipment, from the home and home office level
through commercial shredders such as office shredders, departmental shredders, all the way up to the heavy duty
industrial shredders. Once you get to their site, click on the "Articles" link for the general information
they provide.
